Did you know my mother?
I'm told her name was Belle.
I don't know what she looked like
but have memories of her smell.
Did you ever hear my mother?
Did her cries pull at your heart?
I remember them quite clearly,
when the men pulled us apart.
Did you drink from my mother?
The more involved I become in the animal rights movement- the more I realize just how little I have in common with the people in my life anymore. I try not to dwell on our differences, but I find it gets harder and harder to interact with people who see no worth in the creatures I love and fight for.
They say things that not only offend me, but break my heart. I hear things like "They're called Livestock for a reason" & "Animals are made to be eaten", and it enrages me that even…Continue
I try very hard on a daily basis to not ridicule others about their choice to eat meat. However- it is when I am confronted with statements like the following that I cannot tolerate the ignorance, disconnect, and lack of empathy of my fellow humans:
"They(animals) don't feel pain. Their brains are too small to process the feeling. Also, since pain is a key component of suffering, it follows that they are not suffering if they do not feel…
Check out What Gary Yourofsky has to say about the ever annoying meat eater argument- "plants feel pain too. Share this with any meat eater who throws that at you and I bet you anything he will be speechless :)
It's a long read but SO worth it!
“When meat-eaters run out of excuses to eat dead animals, they usually spew one of two inanities. First, they promulgate respect for the vegan lifestyle, and ask for some respect in return. Of course flesh-eaters respect the vegan way.…Continue
Whether said as jokes, or even said seriously- these are a few 'argument' points that I've encountered in my time being a vegan. To each their own, but these are a few favorites I just had to tackle :)
"But the cows would be in pain and die if we didn't milk them"
No, No they would not die. Cows produce milk for one reason and one reason only- for their young. Cows in dairy farm settings are forcibly bred year after year; a constant cycle of…
Mary was a circus elephant in the 1900's. Her story is one of sadness, and heartbreak. I wanted to share with all of you her story. Learning of Mary has made a huge impact on my life and I think she deserves to be remembered <3
"On September 11, 1916, a hotel worker named Red Eldridge was hired as an assistant elephant trainer by the circus. On the evening of September 12 he was killed by Mary…Continue
I can't help but go off about this- what the HELL is wrong with these people?????
TOURISTS AT CHINESE ICE FESTIVAL SHOOT ARROWS AT LIVE CHICKENS JANUARY 18th 2013
Festival organizers have caused controversy in northern China by offering visitors the chance to shoot live…Continue
Hand picked by the future owners of their furs, these beautiful animals will now either be murdered by breaking their spines, skinned alive, or killed by anal electrocutions (during which an electrically charged steel rod is inserted into the animal's rectum, literally frying his or her insides) - the real price of fur, and the reality of fur farms.…Continue
I have no idea why, but as of late I've been running into a LOT of religious nut jobs (note: not everyone who has a religion is a nut job by any means, However-these particular people are insane. Nor do you have to be religious to be pro life & vice versa) and I've been getting a ton of flack for my veganism and animal rights campaigning.
The most recent thing to send me over the edge was a comment made by someone (lets call her Nutty Woman) about abortion. Nutty woman informed…Continue
While I was in the hospital this past week (acute appendicitis- had to get the lil bugger removed!) I was watching the Animal Planet Channel and during the commercial break there was a heart wrenching ad about animal abuse and how you can help stop it. It was a very emotion ad and I began to cry while the nurse was checking my IV.
She asked me what was wrong and I told her how much I care for animals and what they mean to me and it started a whole conversation about animal rights and…Continue
This year, the hunting season in my area has been a brutal one. I've come across far to many scenes of sorrow and my heart aches for every beautiful being whose life has been taken. I wrote this story based on an actual event I encountered this hunting season to honor the life of a beautiful doe whose life was cut short too soon.
The wind was…Continue
While there are many aspects of animal rights I am passionate about- The Anti Fur Movement is one I care about a great deal. I abhor wearing fur. I think it's possibly one of the most grotesque and perverse things a human being can do- especially in our society where we have other sources of material at our disposal at much more affordable prices. This isn't the stone age- we do not need to run around in our loin cloth and bag on our chests anymore.
I've had so many people…Continue
If hunting and pelt sales continue to thrive- that number will diminish to HALF of what it is now by the end of next year.
Polar Bears are already struggling to cope with disappearing Arctic sea ice, not to mention overfishing and pollution. What they don't need is commercial…Continue
I was at the gas station filling up the tank when I saw it pull in. A huge livestock trailer loudly buzzed through the lot and parked by the diesel tanks. I could here them calling out, crying from across the lot. Their sorrow filled bellows made my heart sink to the ground. Impulse got the best of me as it always does, and I was off.
As I crossed the lot, I saw the huge black numbers sprawled across the side of the trailer: '615'. I couldn't help but think it should be '666' instead.…Continue
