"Non-violence and kindness to living beings is kindness to oneself. For thereby one's own self is saved from various kinds of sins and resultant sufferings and is able to secure his own welfare."

Can we petition God for mercy

And then, in turn, be merciless to

Creatures who are weaker than us?

Isaac Basheuis Singer

Behold I have given you every herb yielding seed.To you it shall be as meat.

God--Genesis 1.29

If anyone wants to save the planet, all they have to do is stop eating meat. That's the single most important thing you can do.It's staggering when you think about it.Vegetarianism takes care of so many things in one shot:ecology, famine, cruelty.

Paul McCartney

"As custodians of the planet it is our responsibility to deal with all species with kindness, love, and compassion. That these animals suffer through human cruelty is beyond understanding. Please help to stop this madness."
Richard Gere

These birds and animals and fish cannot speak, but they can suffer, and our God who created them, knows their sufferings, and will hold him who causes them to suffer unnecessarily to answer for it. It is a sin against their Creator." -
George Q. Cannon

The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
Mahatma Gandhi

Anyone who inflicts pain on others will suffer himself from that pain.
Srimad Bhagavatam 4.8.17

The beef industry spends hundreds of millions of dollars lying to the public about their product. But no amount of false propaganda can sanitize meat. The facts are absolutely clear.Eating meat is bad for human health, catastrophic for the environment and a living nightmare for animals.
Chrisse Hynde

If slaughterhouses had glass walls everyone would be a vegetarian.
Linda McCartney

A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food;therefore,if he eats meat he participates in taking animal life merely for his appetite. And so it is immoral.
Leo Tolstoy

The meat industry has contributed more to human deaths than all the wars of this century, all natural disasters and all automobile accidents combined. If beef is your idea of real food for real people, you'd better live real close to a real good hospital.
Dr. Neal Bernard

Can you really ask for what reason Pythagoras had for abstinence from eating flesh? From my part I rather wonder both by what accident and in what state of mind the first man touched his mouth to gore and brought his lips to the flesh of a dead creature;set forth tables of dead stale bodies and ventured to call food the parts that had a little before bellowed, cried, moved and lived. How could I endure the slaughter when throats were slit and hides flayed and limbs torn from limb? How could his nose endure the stench? How was it that the pollution did not turn away his taste, which made contact with the sores of others and juices and serums from mortal wombs? It is certainly not lions or wolves that we eat out of self defense. On the contrary,we ignore these and slaughter harmless creatures without sting or teeth to harm us.For the sake of a little flesh we deprive from them of sun,of light,of duration of light to which they are entitled by birth and being.

“Animals share with us the privilege of having a soul.”

If you visit the kill floor it will brand your soul for life.
Howard Lyman

I have no doubt that it is part of the destiny of the human race,in it's gradual improvement,to leave off eating animals,as surely as savages tribes have left off eating each other when they have come in contact with the more civilized.
Henry David Thoreau

It ill becomes us to invoke in our daily prayers the blessings of God,the Compassionate,if we will not practice elementary compassion towards our fellow creatures.
Mahatma Gandhi

Truly man is the king of all beasts because his brutality exceeds them all.We live by the death of others. We are burial places.
Leonardo da Vinci

Flesh eating is unprovoked murder.
Ben Franklin

Vegetarian food leaves a deep impression on our nature. If the whole world adopts vegetarianism,it can change the destiny of mankind.
Albert Einstein

There are no reasons why animals should be slaughtered to serve as the human diet when there are so many substitutes.Man can live without eating meat.
Dalai Lama

The eating of meat extinguishes the seed of great compassion.
-Mahaparinirvana [Mahayana Version]

Anyone who has ever heard the scream of an animal being killed could ever again eat it's flesh.

I do not like eating meat because I have seen lambs and pigs killed.I saw and felt their pain. They felt the approaching death.I could not bear it.I cried like a child I ran up a hill and could not breathe.I felt their choking.I felt the death of the lamb.
Vaslaw Nijinsky

Thou shalt not kill.
Exodus 20.13

It is only by softening and disguising dead flesh by culinary preparation that it is rendered susceptible of mastication or digestion and that the sight of it's bloody juices and raw horror does not excite intolerable loathing and disgust.
Percy Bysse Shelly

We manage to swallow flesh only because we do not think of the cruel and sinful thing that we a fundamental sin and admits no arguments or nice distinctions. If only we do not allow our hearts to grow callous,it protests against cruelty,is always clearly heard and yet we go on perpetrating cruelties easily, merrily, all of us in fact, any one who does not join in is dubbed a crank.
Rabindranath Tagore

Cruelty to animals is as if man does not love God.
Cardinal John Newman

Plant life instead of animal food is the keystone of regeneration.Jesus used bread instead of flesh and wine instead of blood at the Lord's Supper.

'Thou shalt not kill!' does not apply to the murder of one's own kind only, but all living beings and this commandment was inscribed in the human breast long before it was proclaimed from Sinai.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Abraham Lincoln

...the unnatural eating of flesh meat of animals is of demoniac origin...the eating of flesh is polluting.
St. John Chrysostom

Those who kill and and eat animals for food will be more prone than vegetarians to torture and kill humans.

We are the living graves of murdered beasts,
Slaughtered to satisfy our appetites.
We never pause to wonder at our feasts,
If animals like man can possibly have rights.
We pray on Sundays that we may have Light
To guide our footsteps on the path we tread
We are sick of war we do not want to fight
The thought of it now fills our hearts with dread.
And yet we gorge ourselves upon the dead.
Like carrion crows we live and feed on meat,
Regardless of the suffering and pain
We cause by doing so.If thus we treat
Defenseless animals for sport or gain
How can we hope in this world to attain
The peace we say we are so anxious for?
We pray for it over tombs of the slain
To God while outraging the moral law,
Thus cruelty begets it's offspring--WAR!
George Bernard Shaw

A man is ethical only when life,as such,is sacred to him;that of plants and animals as that of his fellow man,and when he devotes himself fully to all ,that are in need of help.

-----Albert Schweitzer-----

To a man whose mind is free there is something more intolerable in the suffering of animals than in the suffering of man.For with the later it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and that the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are mercilessly butchered everyday without a shadow of remorse. If any man where to refer to it he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime.

-----Romain Rolland [Nobel 1915]

Non-violence leads to the highest ethics which is the good of all evolution.Until we stop harming all living beings we are savages.

-----Thomas Edison-----

What is it that should trace the insuperable line?...The question is not can they reason?Nor can they talk? But can they suffer?

-----Jeremy Bentham-----

For as long as men massacre animals they will kill each other.Indeed,he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love.

If you will have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity you will have men who will do likewise with their fellow man.

-----St. Francis-----

I must interpret the life about me as I interpret the life that is my own.My life is full of meaning to me.The life around must be must be significant to itself. If I am to expect others to respect my life then I must respect other life I see, however strange it may be to mine...We need a boundless ethics which will include the animals also.

-----Albert Schweitzer-----

All wholesome food is caught without a net or a trap.

-----William Blake-----

If a group of human beings were to land on Earth--beings who considered themselves as superior to you as you yourself feel to other animals--would you concede your rights over you that you assume over animals?

-----George Bernard Shaw-----

All that I have to say to the world and mankind is contained in the notion,'Reverence For All Life'.

-----Albert Schweitzer

I was born in the US shortly after World War 11 and at that time the US was very intensely a meat eating country. In 1970 I met a Yogi named Kali Dasa who had just come out of a 6 month period of silence. He looked me right in the eyes after a Yoga meeting and said,'Jim,vegetarianism is better for your spiritual advancment.'At that moment it was as if a light went off in my…

Inside the North Pole… Alien Encounters BY: ABHAYA MUDRA DASI

At night we see Svargaloka as a chandelier of stars over our heads and if we are observant we can distinguish that the movement of this plane is similar to the twisting of a…

Vijitatma dasaji, I don't even like the word meat...I think it's supposed to be an aphorism so that people don't realize what they're eating.  I don't eat birds, animals, sea creatures, or their eggs.  No "meat" for me.
