A common main course  Indian dish 


1 Cup  Green Peas

2 Cup Paneer ( cottage cheese )

2 cup tomato puree

1-2 tbs Garlic ginger paste 

1 tbs Cumin seeds 

1tbs Dry fenugreek leaves ( if available )

Pinch of asafoedita ( optional )

3 tbs Red chilli powder 

1 tbs Coriander powder 

1/2 Turmeric powder 

1 tbs Garam masala powder ( if available ) 

1 tbs salt 

4 tbs Oil 

1 1/2 tbs Butter 

4tbs Fresh cream ( optional )


Heat butter in a sauce pan, cube the paneer into half inch pieces and fry them on medium heat till they turn golden, and keep them aside.

Heat the oil in a saucepan, add cumin seeds. When the cumin seed cracks, the oil is ready for cooking. 

Then add chopped onions and saute until golden along with ginger garlic paste.

Now add  turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, dry fenugreek leaves, and asafoetida,  fry untill the mixture turns light brown ( it would take 5-8 min on medium fame).

Now add pureed tomato, cover and cook the gravy for  approx. 10 minutes in medium flame.

Then add  green peas and fried paneer along with salt, and stir well to mix them with the gravy. Some people also add fresh cream  to make the gravy  thicker. 

Cover and let it simmer until the oil separates from the gravy. It would roughly take  5-10 min. Garnish with coriander and serve with bread or Indian chapati.

I add a little cashew paste instead of the cream to enhance the gravy.... taste creamy too :)
